The
Tompkins Square Middle School After School Program offers TSMS students
a safe space, resources, and guidance to learn, explore, and develop in
a ways that extend beyond the realm of the school day. The program
operates Monday through Friday from 3:25PM to 5:55PM throughout the
school year, and is free to all participants. The After School Program
offers students the opportunity to choose from of a rich array of
engaging classes in a variety of areas. Classes include academic
support with a daily hour of homework help on grade level alongside TSMS
teachers and NYU tutors; physical activities such as Soccer, Road Runners, Table
Tennis, Dance, and Basketball; and classes in the creative arts such as
Photography, Art, Maracatu Rhythm Band, and Theater. Other classes include Newspaper,
Knitting, and more. The program is aligned with the school's mission
to create a learning community with high academic standards dedicated to
fostering ethical, caring, self-reflective, and critical thinkers.
In previous years, the TSMS After School Program was operated in
partnership with a local non-profit organization. However, due to the
loss of a large federal grant at the end of the 2007-2008 school
year, the non-profit closed their site
here at TSMS. Despite this, Tompkins Square Middle School remains
committed to the After School Program.
TSMS is actively seeking new partnerships, funding sources, grants, and
resources. We are currently soliciting donations of funding, time,
equipment, supplies, etc. If you have any contributions, suggestions,
or ideas, we encourage you to get in touch.
